Dr Ann Rawkins nee Williams is currently a Scientific Leader at the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, of Public Health England. Her role is to provide scientific direction to the TB research programme which aims to identify and develop vaccine and/or therapeutic targets and evaluate these in aerosol-challenge in-vivo models. The vaccine evaluation team which Dr Rawkins has led for the past 15 years has been a key component of the European effort to develop an improved TB vaccine.
Prior to her TB studies she worked at the same site in the Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research studying Salmonella infection in chickens for 4 years and before that conducted her PhD studies on the pathogenic mechanisms of Legionnaires’ disease.
