The TuBerculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI) mourns the passing of Dr. Barry Bloom, a leading scientist and humanitarian, whose work profoundly transformed the fields of infectious diseases, vaccines, and international health.
Dr. Bloom was widely recognised for his scientific leadership and unwavering commitment to the fight against some of the world’s most urgent health problems, particularly tuberculosis. He played a key role in shaping global research agendas and advancing vaccine development, including his dedicated involvement and support for the establishment of the Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI). Dr Bloom served for many years on TBVI’s Advisory Board with great enthusiasm and dedication as he expressed his goal of developing new TB vaccines and halting the global TB epidemic.
In addition to his many scientific achievements, Dr. Bloom will also be remembered as a dedicated person who enjoyed collaborating and committed himself to global health equality.
His legacy remains an inspiration for efforts to develop better vaccines and reduce the burden of infectious diseases worldwide.
He leaves behind a lasting imprint on global health that will be felt for generations.
