TBVI warmly congratulates Professor Carlos Martin, from the University of Zaragoza, on receiving the 2026 UNESCO–Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences.
Professor Martín is one of three distinguished scientists recognised this year for their outstanding contributions to global health. The award acknowledges his exceptional scientific leadership and major contribution to the clinical development of MTBVAC, the first live attenuated tuberculosis vaccine derived from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A phase III clinical trial is currently underway to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the vaccine in newborns.
TBVI has been working closely with Professor Martín and his team for decades to advance the development of MTBVAC. We are proud of this longstanding partnership and delighted to see his dedication and contribution to the field of tuberculosis vaccine research recognised through this prestigious international award.
